My experience in education began in Vermont in 1974 where I taught high school mathematics. While doing graduate work at the University of New Hampshire I learned the BASIC programming language. I taught this to high school seniors at Northfield High School using the mainframe computer at Norwich University. In 1993 I earned my Masters in Technology Education from St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. I have been working with Erie 1 BOCES as a staff developer and planner since 1996. Most of my time as been spent in the three county region of Steuben, Allegany and Cattaraugus counties.
I first learned about wikis from Will Richardson at a High Schools New Face Conference in 2006 at Ellicottville, NY. Since that time I have used a wiki to keep track of common web sites for use in specific content areas. This wiki is located at http://e1online.wnyric.org/wiki/index.php/Instructional_Web_Resources and is shared by the Model Schools staff developers of Erie 1 BOCES. I have also created wikis for my high school class where we can share information about what is happening in our lives. I distributed a password so that the site can be kept private. I created another wiki containing information about my hometown that is open to the public. There are pages on that wiki where information about sports, businesses, famous people, tragedies and special events can be recorded. The last two wikis have not gained a lot of popularity yet since many in my high school class and my home community still only use email and are not familiar with web 2.0 technologies.
